New York City-based singer/songwriter, Matt Palmer, intends to bring back a needed breath of honesty into the world of R&B. No bravado, no flash— just his own lyrics offered through thoughtful songs and heartfelt melodies. Matt’s music is the unmistakable sound of a songwriter sharing sincere emotion and a piece of himself.

“I’ve been singing since I was very young and songwriting came into the picture later. I love them both so much that I couldn’t ever give one up, fully”.

Matt grew up listening to ‘90s R&B radio, dominated at the time by icons like Babyface, Michael Jackson, and Mariah Carey. Performing in the local Atlanta choir while writing songs as early as age 14, it wasn’t long before Matt’s combined talents led him on the road to success. Matt’s efforts gained him admittance to the prestigious Clive Davis Department at NYU, where he further honed his skills as a songwriter and producer. Upon graduation, Matt entered SongwriterUniverse.com’s Song Of The Month competition and won with his song “I Wish.” Judge and seasoned music publisher, Dale Kawashima, was so taken by Matt’s music that he arranged for Matt to sign with HoriPro Entertainment Group in Los Angeles, CA as a songwriter.

Since signing with HoriPro, Matt has found a wealth of opportunity working with top-tier talent. His emotional melodies and versatile writing style led to Matt co-writing songs for major label artists with producers OAK (Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj), Dave Tozer (John Legend, Jay-Z), and Brian West (Nelly Furtado, K’Naan).

Along with a publishing deal came the opportunity to work with MusicTaste, an artist development-minded record label housed within HoriPro. It is there that Matt staked his claim as an artist, releasing the I Wish EP – his first avenue for showcasing his own material.

Matt Palmer’s debut as an artist/songwriter has been a longtime coming. Now, with the confidence gained from real world experience, Matt’s first album, Let Go, is set to catch the attention of fans and artists alike.

“I could’ve stayed scared about how I’d be perceived [as an artist] and remained only a songwriter, or I can put myself out there and see what happens.”

With musical roots sprouting from Atlanta’s hotbed of R&B talent, paired with the smarts that come with adapting to the fast life of NYC, Matt Palmer is keeping his feet on the ground and his ambitions high. He may be letting go of the apprehension that comes along with being an artist, but he is certainly not letting go of the honesty that drives his best songs. Only this time, Matt is giving the music world the chance to get to know the man behind the music.

New York City’s Matt Palmer is ready to break down the barrier that separates songwriter from artist as he prepares to release his debut album, Let Go, on October 12, 2010. Available in both physical and digital formats, the album offers Palmer’s distinctively personal, upbeat R&B songs, delivered directly from the songwriter’s own voice. The album incorporates contemporary pop and electronic dance elements, marking an evolution from the piano-driven sound characterizing last year’s digitally released I Wish EP.

Matt Palmer found success in cowriting with top-tier producers and major label artists as the first R&B songwriter signed to the internationally-spanning HoriPro Publishing company. Signing with LA’s artist development-focused label, MusicTaste, Palmer made the decision to record an album comprised of his own works, ‘letting go’ of any hesitations he held of becoming a recording artist. "I could have been scared about how I’d be perceived as an artist and remain a songwriter only, or I could put myself out there and see what happens.

Fortified with the R&B roots grown in his hometown of Atlanta, GA, the 23 year-old songwriterartist hybrid looked to HoriPro’s international network for production on the album – teaming up with multi-platinum French producer, Pascal “CLAPS” Guyon, (Leona Lewis), and acclaimed producer, Shin Murayama, a staple in the Japanese Top 10 charts. The result was Let Go – a relatable collection of songs containing a wide range of moods, seamlessly held together by Palmer’s signature catchy melodies and well-delivered choruses.

The title track, “Let Go,” is undeniably a Matt Palmer effort, mixing an upbeat dance rhythm with honest, inspirational lyrics. Contrastingly, “Lovesick,” has a strong, contagious beat and attacks the listener with an aggressiveness that is surely not to be ignored by nightclub DJs. “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover,” the only song on the album that is not written by Palmer, himself, exemplifies his versatility and creativity, providing a fresh R&B spin on a Sophie B. Hawkins’ classic.

A multi-talented songwriter, producer, and recording artist, Palmer’s plans for 2010 include live performances, continued songwriting sessions with major label artists, and further production of his own materiall all of which are constantly shared through Matt’s numerous online profiles.
